Abstract
Growth performance of sesame (Sesamum Indicum L. variety BARI Til 3) as affected by different levels of management was studied during the period of March to June, 2008 at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka. The management packages were T1=Broadcast sowing without any management (control), T2= Broadcast sowing + one hand weeding (1 HW) at 20 DAS, T3= Broadcast sowing + recommended fertilizer, T4= Broadcast sowing + recommended fertilizer + 1 HW at 20 DAS, T5= Broadcast sowing + recommended fertilizer + 1 HW at 20 DAS + insect control, T6= Line sowing without management , T7= Line sowing + 1 HW at 20 DAS, T8= Line sowing + recommended fertilizer, T9= Line sowing + recommended fertilizer + 1 HW at 20 DAS and T10= Line sowing + recommended fertilizer + 1 HW at 20 DAS + insect control at 45 DAS. Results revealed that T10 performed best in respect of almost all parameters at all the growth stages showing the maximum value of plant height (93.38 cm), leaf area index (0.92), primary branches per plant (6.15), above ground dry matter per plant (54.29 g), crop growth rate (41.20 gm-2 d-1), relative growth rate (0.39g g-1 day-1) and net assimilation rate (5.36 g m-2 day-1) which were significantly higher than control treatment (T1) at maturity.
