 Abstract
Effect of chilli-cotton intercropping in the hilly area of Chittagong Hill Tracts was studied in Hill Cotton Research Station, Bandarban during Kharif season of 2008 and 2009 to identify the suitable combination(s). The experiment comprised seven treatments viz. Sole cotton , Sole chilli, cotton + single row chilli, cotton + double row chilli,  cotton + Triple row chilli,  cotton + chilli as jhum crop and Farmer’s sowing practice. The result revealed that the highest yield of cotton (804-1021 kg ha-1) and chilli (784 kg ha-1) were obtained from their respective sole crop. Among the intercropping cotton + single row chilli gave the highest cotton yield (736-942 kg ha-1)and cotton + single – triple row chilli produced significantly higher chilli yield (470-638 kg ha-1). The highest net return (Tk. 7353- 12042 ha‑1) and benefit cost ratio (1.56-1.87) were obtained from cotton + single row chili intercrop combination.

Key words: Intercropping, hill tracts, cotton and chilli.
