Abstract
The study was
conducted at the Horticulture Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University,
Dhaka during the period from April 2010 to March 2011 to examine the influence
of eyes number in each seed rhizome on yield and yield contributing characters of local
turmeric. Three
types of seed rhizomes (E1: single eyed, E2: 2 eyed and E3:
3 eyed seed) were used as treatments in the present study. Results showed that
the tallest plant (67.6 cm), maximum number of leaves (10.5), longest leaf (43.0
cm) and widest leaf (12.0 cm) were observed in E2, whereas the lowest
were observed in control. Significantly the highest weight of mother rhizome per plant
(29.6 g) was recorded in E2 while the lowest (25.5 g) in E1. Highest yield (9.3 t ha-1)
was recorded in E2 and the lowest (8.0 t ha-1) in E1.
