PREVALENCE OF PATHOGENIC FUNGI IN SOILS OF WHEAT FIELD

 Abstract

Thirty fungi were isolated from soils collected  from wheat fields of rice-rice-wheat, green manure crop (Sesbania grandiflora L.) - fallow - wheat and fallow - fallow – wheat cropping pattern from Gazipur (Joydebpur) and Jamalpur district of Bangladesh. In both locations, fourteen fungi were in common. The pathogenic fungi, Bipolaris sp., Curvularia sp., Fusarium spp., Rhizoctonia sp. and Sclerotium sp. were obtained from both locations. The fungus Gaeumannomyces sp. was only pathogenic to wheat in Joydebpur while Phoma sp. was weakly pathogenic to wheat was obtained from the soil of Jamalpur district. The pathogenic lower fungus Pythium sp. was obtained from Joydebpur soils only.
