Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) Research Farm, Gazipur, Bangladesh during Aman season of 2008 to evaluate the effect of combined use of organic and inorganic sulphur (S) sources on yield contributing characters and yield of T. Aman rice (cv. BRRI dhan33). The eight treatments were T0=Control i. e.  no fertilizers; T1= recommended dose  (RD) of fertilizers (N80, P16, K24, S12); T2= 50 % S of RD through gypsum, 6 kg S ha-1 and 50 % S of RD  through cowdung (CD), 15 t CD ha-1 (6 kg S ha-1); T3= 75 % S of RD  through gypsum, 9 kg S ha-1 and 25 % S through cowdung (CD), 7.5 t CD ha-1 (3 kg S ha-1); T4= 50 % S  of RD through gypsum, 6 kg S ha-1and 50 % S of RD  through poultry manure (PM), 9 t PM ha-1 (6 kg S ha-1); T5= 75 % S of RD  through gypsum, 9 kg S ha-1 and 25 % S of RD  through poultry manure(PM), 4.5 t PM ha-1 (3 kg S ha-1); T6= 50 % S of RD through gypsum, 6 kg S ha-1and 50 % S of RD  through household wastes (HW),  16 t HW ha-1 (6 kg S ha-1); T7 = 75 % S of RD  through gypsum, 9 kg S ha-1 and 25 % S of RD  through household wastes (HW),  8 t HW ha-1 (3 kg S ha-1).The nutrient S as per treatments and nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) potassium (K) and zinc (Zn) as per recommended dose were applied. Combined application of inorganic and organic sources of S had a significant positive effect on growth, yield and yield contributing characters of T. Aman. The effect of PM was prominent than that of CD and HW. The treatment 50 % S through gypsum and 50 % S through PM (T4) produced the highest grain (4.61 t ha-1) and was at par with T2 and T6 when T0 had the lowest grain yield of 2.50 t ha-1.
