STUDY ON HAOR HOMESTEAD AND ITS FRUITS DIVERSITY IN BANGLADESH

Abstract
Fruit diversity is essential to fulfill the diversified nutritional requirement as well as to conserve the genetic resources and environmental balance. The target of this study was to investigate the diversity of fruit species in the Haor homestead and to explore the relationship between growers characteristics and fruit diversity in their homestead. The study covered 300 homesteads from five unions Ajmirigonj Upazila of Habiganj District. The information’s were collected by using structured questionnaires, formal and informal interviews, field observations and group discussion with the homestead fruit grower. The observation revealed that age of the respondents and age of the homestead has no relationship with the fruit diversity, while education, family size, occupation of the respondents, area of the homestead, fruit area in the homesteads have low and positive relationship with the fruit diversity. Yearly income has low and negative relationship with the fruit diversity but not significant.
