Abstract
The study was conducted in the
experimental field of Sher-e-Bangladesh Agricultural University, Dhaka during
October to April, 2010 to evaluate the efficacy of Mehogoni oil (5ml L-1 and
3ml L-1 of water), Neem oil (5ml L-1 and 3ml L-1 of water), Marshal 20 EC (2ml
L-1 of water), and Ripcord 10 EC (1ml L-1 of water) against brinjal shoot and
fruit borer (BSFB). Among the treatments, Marshal 20EC @ 2ml L-1 of water at 28
days after transplanting and repeated 7 days interval was the highest performer
in terms of showing the lowest shoot infestation (3.82%), lowest fruit
infestation by number (12.29%) and by weight (8.73%) and infestation intensity
per fruit. The highest shoot infestation (16.25%) was observed in control which
was close to the treatment having Mehogoni oil @ 3ml L-1 of water (15.57%). The
findings showed that Marshal 20EC @ 2ml L-1 of water is the best to control
BSFB, but other botanicals comprising higher dose might be significant components
in managing the pest of brinjal. So, further study is recommended to check the
potentiality of the botanicals with different doses against BSFB.
