Abstract
Effect of different
mulches on growth, yield and quality of exotic varieties of sweet
potato were evaluated at the research field of Sher-e-Bangla
Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during November 2018 to
April 2019. Three Japanese varieties; namely AnnouBeni (V1),
AnnouKougane (V2) and Kokei 14 Go (V3) were grown under mulch cover
in the field with Control (M0), straw (M1) and black vinyl (M2) mulch
materials. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block
Design (RCBD) with three replications. The highest vine length was
observed with the combination treatment V3M2 treatment (187.26 cm)
and the lowest with V1M0 (152.96 cm). Significantly the highest
storage root length was observed from the treatment combination V2M2
(27.27 cm) but the highest storage root girth was observed from the
treatment combination V3M2 (28.44 cm). The treatment combination V3M2
gave the highest yield (32.44 t/ha). The lowest dry weight (32.33 g)
was found from the treatment combination V1M0. However, no
significant difference was found for total soluble solids (%) content
with mulch treatment.
